Taken during the last months of his life, these pictures show John’s struggles, and his spirit to carry on as best as he could.

A kind and gentle man, he married Margo in 1963 inheriting two step children. They had a son together in 1966. John was a consistent and reliable provider for his family, a low handicap golfer who loved cars, and a man who loved his dogs.

He died in July 2024, in his own home, with his family by his side.

Reflected through his kitchen window, he gets ready to go out. Always ready for a drive around. His deafness precluded him from socialising and his worsening cognitive function meant that television and radio were of no use in passing the time.

A sense of humour stayed with him , most of the time.
John spent much time in his kitchen in a comfortable chair sleeping. He was surrounded by his own things and he had a view into the garden.
As his pain and despair increased, his mood lowered and he became despondent at times .
John embraced all adjuncts offered which gave him increased and easier mobility.
He did as much as he was able to help himself in his daily life and was incredibly grateful for the care given by his family.
